Q
- QBE
- Query by example. (Database)
- Q encoder.
- Similar to I encoder but responsible for different colours.
- Quantisation
- Method of approximating the amplitude of an analog signal sample and recording it in terms of bits. The process of measuring an analog signal and assigning numerical levels to it.
- Rounding or truncating a value to the nearest reference value. In a sequencer, used to adjust recorded material so it will be performed precisely on a selected division of the beat. In digital audio, the range of numbers used for specifying amplitude levels of a recorded signal. (16 bit quantization = 65,536 values; 8-bit = 256, etc.)
The higher the quantisation, the higher the quality of the sound.
Inadequate quantisation usually results in a ‘buzzing’ noise.
- Quantization Resolution.
- The accuracy of measuring an analog signal and representing its strength with numbers. A two-bit resolution describes something by 4 levels, a three-bit resolution, 8 levels.
- Quicktime Movie.
- A file format that takes a series of individual files (pictures) and combines them into one file and can play them in sequence, creating animation or motion.
